Drawing on a wealth of theoretical and empirical work, you will explore a range of emerging technologies and pedagogical practices that harness digital technologies. In a unit where the theoretical and the practical collide, you will examine the potential of emerging technologies to break the boundaries of traditional teaching and learning contexts to produce active learning experiences. You will develop critical thinking and synthesis skills when considering the potential affordances of technologies with their limitations.

Teaching Period 5

Innovations in digital technologies continue to reshape the way we design and deliver learning experiences. In this unit, you will critically explore emerging technologies and pedagogical practices that are expanding the possibilities of education. Through a blend of theory, research, and applied gamification principles, you will examine the potential of innovations such as gamification, learning analytics, artificial intelligence (AI), and immersive learning environments to create more engaging, personalised, and effective learning experiences.

You will investigate how these technologies challenge traditional models of teaching and learning, and consider their impact on learner agency, curriculum design, assessment, and educational equity. At the same time, you will develop the ability to evaluate both the promise and the limitations of educational innovations, including their ethical, social, and institutional implications. By the end of the unit, you will be equipped to propose and justify forward-thinking designs that reflect a strategic and critical approach to educational change.
