Early childhood and primary health and physical education and technologies
EDF5851
Synopsis
This unit introduces you to key aspects of the Health and Physical Education (HPE) and Technologies learning areas within early childhood and primary contexts. A modular approach has been adopted to critically examine key aspects of the curriculum across the HPE and Technologies learning areas and overview pedagogical and planning approaches to provide the knowledge and understanding to effectively teach in early childhood and primary settings.
The HPE module will address wellbeing, safety and HPE. You will develop foundational understandings of guiding frameworks, legislation, policy and curriculum documents that inform contemporary practice from the early childhood to primary education contexts. A range of topics relevant to young people’s health and wellbeing will be explored as well as the role of community partnerships and environments linked to educational settings that support learning. You will engage with the primary HPE curriculum to design a sequence of learning activities that are linked to a specific topic and learning outcomes. Within the Technologies module you will develop your knowledge of the concepts, substance and structure of the Technologies learning area, as well as the pedagogical, contextual and curriculum knowledge required to effectively plan, teach and assess this learning area in early childhood and primary contexts.
