Synopsis
In this unit, you will re-engage with your own creative capacities to participate in, explore and lead artful learning experiences. This philosophical and pedagogical approach aims to build confidence and competence in understanding and implementing The Arts curriculum area in primary contexts and frames the content, delivery and assessment of this unit. Key content will include introduction to and critical analysis of planning, teaching and assessment strategies to lead children’s learning in the Arts (making and responding in arts disciplines) and learning through the Arts (using Arts-rich pedagogy across the curriculum). You will participate in a range of workshop activities selected from the five areas of The Arts curriculum (Dance, Drama, Media Arts, Music and Visual Arts) and work collaboratively to plan and peer-teach cross-curriculum arts-rich activities suitable for the F-6 generalist classroom context. Contemporary issues in Arts Education will be explored and discussed through both out-of class readings and in-class activities, to enable you to develop a strong understanding of the importance of The Arts in primary education.
