The arts and technologies in primary schools

EDF5860

Synopsis

In this unit, you will be encouraged to re-engage with your own creative capacities to participate in, explore and lead artful and technological learning experiences. This unit draws on seminars, hands-on in-class activities and individual reading to inform content and assignment tasks. This philosophical and pedagogical approach aims to build confidence and competence in understanding and implementing The Arts and Technologies curriculum areas in primary contexts and frames the content, delivery and assessment of this unit. Key content will include introduction to and critical analysis of planning, teaching and assessment strategies to lead children’s learning in and through the Arts (Making and Responding in arts disciplines) and learning in and through the Technologies (with a focus on Creating designed and digital solutions). You will participate in a range of workshop activities selected from the five areas of The Arts curriculum (Dance, Drama, Media Arts, Music and Visual Arts) and the two areas of Technologies (Design and technology and Digital Technologies) and work collaboratively to plan and peer-teach cross-curriculum arts and technology-rich activities suitable for the F-6 generalist classroom context. Contemporary issues surrounding Arts Education and the use of technology in education will be explored and discussed to enable you to develop a strong understanding of the importance of The Arts and the Technologies in primary education.
