PREREQUISITE:
This unit is available only to students in E6011 Master of Professional Engineering, E6014 Master of Engineering or E6017 Master of Advanced Engineering
Enrolment in the unit is contingent upon completing the internal application process and meeting the minimum eligibility requirements for consideration:
E6011 Master of Professional Engineering:
- Admitted into Entry level 1 (three-year program): You have completed 96 credit points in the course and obtained a minimum WAM 60.
- Admitted into Entry level 2 (two-year program): You have completed 48 credit points in the course and obtained a minimum WAM 60.
- Completion of the Engineering Employability Skills Program is highly recommended prior to enrolling in this unit.
E6014 Master of Engineering:
- You have completed 24 credit points in the course and obtained a minimum WAM 60.
- Completion of the Engineering Employability Skills Program is highly recommended prior to enrolling in this unit.
E6017 Master of Advanced Engineering:
- You have completed 48 credit points in the course and obtained a minimum WAM 60.
- Completion of the Engineering Employability Skills Program is highly recommended prior to enrolling in this unit.
Overview
You undertake a project defined by a partner organisation with the approval of the unit coordinator. The placement may be an affiliated arrangement where a consultancy or research project is carried out in association with the company and physical location at the company is not required. Partner organisations may be from a diverse range of industries and sectors, including government departments, private industry and not-for-profit organisations. You will communicate the project findings in the format specified by the partner organisation, such as a consultation paper, report, commentary, manual, submission or speech. The partner organisation provides field supervision, and the faculty provides academic supervision.

The minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 144 hours per semester typically comprising a mixture of 4-6 hours of scheduled learning activities and 6-8 hours independent study per week. Scheduled activities may include a combination of teacher-directed learning, peer-directed learning and online engagement. Independent study may include associated readings, assessment and preparation for scheduled activities.
You will work with a host organisation on a short-term engineering project, and submit various assessment tasks related to the project. Feedback from the unit coordinator and reviewers will help you to efficiently manage the project towards desired outcomes, as well as effectively communicate about your project activities.
You will undertake various hands-on engineering activities at the host organisation which will enable you to apply and thereby deeply understand various engineering concepts.
