Synopsis
This unit is about developing proficiency with the tools of the trade in the practice of Computer Science. It will include mastering the command-line, using a powerful text editor, mastery of version control systems, debugging and profiling, working securely with remote machines, fundamentals of virtual machines, data wrangling and metaprogramming. These topics and the underlying foundations are crucial to be an effective computer scientist and programmer. The unit will be very practical and revolve about solving real-world challenges faced by computer scientists.
