Overview
This unit introduces you to critical thinking and its role in contemporary creative practices. The unit contextualises the theories and discourses of critical interventions within the history of conceptual art, feminist practices, the politics of subjectivity and intersectional identifications. These practices are explored through a range of fine art and design methodologies drawing on the history of performance, sound art, video and socially-engaged practices. Particular attention will be paid to developing creative responses that contextualise contemporary cultural politics through an exploration of the sonic imagination, the poetics of movement and movement-based technologies, as well as a variety of subversive material and political strategies.
