Overview

This unit is based on an internship for students in cultural organisations, art institutions and creative workplaces. It is designed to provide you with first-hand experience of working within the culture industry while introducing you to the types of research and practices customarily undertaken in various creative professions. The internship is self-managed, with the assistance and approval of the Unit Coordinator and host organisation. After preliminary seminars, you will be assigned to a work placement in which you will work approximately one day per week, over a period of eight weeks, or as approved under the direction of the relevant director. The internship experience will enable you to put your skills and knowledge in to practice in a professional workplace, and reflect upon your industry experience within a broader set of social and cultural issues. You will complete a journal that documents and reflects on the internship experience and undertake a research project of specific relevance to the professional context of the industry placement.
