Overview
You will focus on the special areas of pediatric deaths, maternal deaths, deaths in the presence of police, and neglect, among others. You will be introduced to the contribution from imaging to forensic practice and to post mortem toxicology. You will be introduced to the forensic pathology approach to human identification in disaster settings. Your focus in the mortuary will be on all aspects of the autopsy and forensic anthropology.

Learning outcomes
When you finish this unit, you should be able to:

Identify and discuss the forensic pathology of special cases such as pediatric deaths, maternal deaths and cases of neglect.

Interpret post mortem toxicology results and their contribution to the assessment of particular cases.

Analyse the approach to and devise a plan for management of human identification, including mortuary management, in multi-fatality disasters.
- 4
Identify the individual components of the human skeleton, including dentition, and the main features of forensic significance.
- 5
Demonstrate competence in undertaking a complete forensic autopsy including undertaking special dissections.
Workload and teaching
6 hours off campus, self-directed learning per week, 4 hours teacher directed learning per week, plus 20 contact hours over 3 block days.
