Overview
This unit establishes the principles of formal engineering and geometrical drawing. Topics include equipment and materials, line types, drawing notional elements, projecting and sectioning, presentation principles and an introduction to dimensioning and tolerancing.

Learning outcomes
When you finish this unit, you should be able to:

Appreciate product Engineering Drawing as communication system;

Understand the importance of product Engineering Drawing as a significant component of the industrial design process;

Execute drawings of three dimensional objects through projections and sectional views that comply with accepted professional industry convention, in particular Australian Standards (AS1100) to a basic standard;

Apply the above principles when designing in any computer aided design program;
- 5
Understand and be able to apply the rules of occupational health and safety appropriate to the unit of study.

12 hours per week including 3 contact hours plus 9 hours of independent study.
Laboratory-based classes
This subject is delivered in a computer lab format, a combination of learning by instruction and by applying and exploring the taught methods, both in class and in private study time.
Collaborative learning and problem solving is expected from students throughout the course, applying knowledge from lecture demonstrations as work is undertaken in allocated studio time.
Due to the technical program based content of the course further assistance can be arranged with the Unit coordinator by appointment only within normal office hours.
