Workload and teaching

  • Studio activities96 hours
  • Teaching approachPeer assisted learning
  • Teaching approachActive learning
  • Teaching approachProblem-based learning

36 hours per week including 8 contact hours plus 28 hours of independent study.

The honours year study makes use of a variety of teaching approaches. Broadly speaking design is an action-based approach to problem solving involving the synthesis of knowledge applied to practical empirical activities. To engage with the design process teaching will be carried out through a highly structured framework of classes within which students explore a problem based learning. This facilitated by one to one discussions with teaching staff and amongst peers. Experimentation is reviewed through the mechanism of critique and advancements made through studio / workshop time and application. Students will also receive discussion seminars concerning research methods and have the opportunity to present and share ideas with peers.
