Overview
This unit establishes foundational knowledge of digital fabrication, specifically exploring Laser Cutting and 3D Printing. You will learn and explore how to create 3D objects from 2D materials. You will also learn how to design, detail, and fabricate your 3D CAD models into physical appearance models that represent your final intended product; a critical skill to showcase your final product design.

When you finish this unit, you should be able to:

Proficiently manipulate materials to create 3D forms from 2D materials;

Apply a wide range of construction methods and techniques including the exploration of new and innovative approaches;

Laboratory-based classes
This subject is delivered in a computer lab format, a combination of learning by instruction and by applying and exploring the taught methods, both in class and in private study time.
Collaborative learning and problem solving is expected from students throughout the course, applying knowledge from lecture demonstrations as work is undertaken in allocated studio time.
Due to the technical program based content of the course further assistance can be arranged with the Unit Coordinator by appointment only within normal office hours.
