Enrolment rules

Students who commenced their course in or before 2026 must have completed a minimum of 60 credit points of law study.

Students who commenced their course in 2027 or later must have completed a minimum of 54 credit points of law study.

Overview

The unit introduces you to the law and practice of the sale of land in Victoria. You will develop an understanding of the legal principles governing the creation, structure and finalisation of contracts of sale of land and the transfer of land in practice.

You will analyse and gain an understanding of how sale of land is regulated from both the seller’s and buyer’s perspective. This will be followed by an examination of the general conditions of standard contract of sale of land to develop an understanding of the circumstances when these general conditions require to be either supplemented or amended by special conditions to manage relevant risk.

The unit includes an examination of the main land related taxes and duties and also introduces you to the electronic settlement regime.

Overall, the unit provides you with practical, applied knowledge of sale of land transactions equipping you with skills directly relevant to legal practice in property and commercial law.
