Overview
This unit introduces you to Australian environmental and land use regulation. It develops and integrates legal knowledge from a range of disciplinary and interdisciplinary fields (e.g. constitutional and administrative law, international law, and torts; environmental science, and geography), augmenting this knowledge through study of specific legislation and case law.
The unit addresses the philosophical and Indigenous understandings of place, and environmental and landscape values and principles, structures of environmental governance and modes of environmental and planning regulation.
The unit will cover topics including environmental federalism, environmental impact assessment, pollution control, environmental planning, heritage protection, and biodiversity conservation.
