Human rights advocacy

LAW5381

Synopsis

It is one thing to know about human rights law, but another to be an effective advocate.  This unit addresses what human rights advocacy is, how to develop a human rights advocacy strategy and how to be an effective human rights advocate.

The unit skillfully balances in-depth academic analysis of the topic with case studies illustrating the successful implementation of human rights advocacy strategies. Students will study a diverse array of advocacy approaches, including courtroom advocacy as part of strategic litigation, advocacy within the United Nations and community and political advocacy for law reform.

The unit provides students with an opportunity to research, develop and practice their own human rights advocacy skills.
