For Legal Studies students (L4004, L5004, L6013) you must have completed LAW5000 or LAW5081
and
For Juris Doctor students (L6005), you must have completed 72 points of study, including LAW5008 Principles of equity, LAW5010 Principles of trusts, and LAW5018 Advanced property law.

 

Overview

The unit in succession law will consider distribution of the estate of deceased persons, including will making, family provision claims, intestacy, probate, estate management, funeral disputes and professional responsibilities.

When you finish this unit, you should be able to:

    Demonstrate understanding of the key principles and goals of succession law as a distinct legal discipline and area of practice.

    Critically analyse a range of sources in order to investigate and make informed commentary on key knowledge areas of succession law.

    Undertake relevant independent research to investigate, analyse and interpret information derived from a range of sources in order to make informed commentary on issues in succession law.

    Apply problem solving skills in order to make informed evaluations concerning complex areas of succession law and use these as a basis for providing clear and accurate written advice for clients.

    Communicate persuasively on a range of issues concerning succession law.
