Synopsis

In this unit students will engage with topical issues shaping civil justice systems and litigation in Australia. The unit content will focus on contemporary developments and draw on international comparisons, with potential content including: the role and evaluation of judicial case management; online courts and tribunals; litigation and case management technologies; open justice and access to court and tribunal information; litigation costs, financing and access to justice; current issues in complex litigation and class actions; ethical issues and professional responsibilities in civil litigation; and evaluating procedural reforms and innovations. The unit will equip students with an advanced understanding of the dynamic landscape of civil justice and litigation, and skills to critically evaluate and contribute to the ongoing discourse and development in the field.
