Overview
This unit introduces the fundamental aspects of flight vehicle dynamics and control. You will work with the equations of motion for rigid aircraft and learn how they are derived under aerodynamic forces and moments, expressed in terms of aircraft attitude and Euler angles. You will apply linearised state-space models to represent an aircraft’s response to perturbations and control inputs, and establish the requirements for trim as well as static and dynamic stability. You will analyse handling qualities and the transient and steady-state response of aircraft.

Learning outcomes
When you finish this unit, you should be able to:
- 1
Formulate mathematical models of aerospace systems to analyse their dynamic behaviour and stability.
- 2
Use computational tools to model, simulate, analyse, and evaluate system dynamics and control performance.
- 3
Reflect upon ethical issues in the aerospace engineering field, identifying stakeholders, impacts and responsibilities.
