Corequisite: Must be enrolled in a postgraduate program in the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences.

Overview

The aim of this Unit is to develop and strengthen your practical skills to improve equity for Indigenous peoples. The unit content covers the five learning domains of the Australian Government’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Curriculum Framework. This includes respect, reflection, advocacy, communication and safety and quality. The Unit provides opportunities to learn about: the oldest continuing culture in the world; the pervasiveness of colonisation; strategies that assist mitigate colonisation impacts and strength based approaches. You will engage in online learning that features video and podcast stories, reflection activities, peer review and opportunities to participate in online tutorials with Indigenous academics. Using design thinking techniques you will also create a response to an Indigenous equity challenge of relevance to your professional work and aspirations, gaining experience that can be adapted to a variety of professional roles.
