Overview

In the age of disruption, new organisational forms are emerging, and established business processes are changing.  In response to shifts in the competitive landscape and technological advances, such as the rise of AI and algorithmic prediction, traditional management and managerial decision-making are also being transformed.  Amidst such change, to remain competitive, indeed to claim new competitive territory, an organisation’s strategic management must successfully navigate the balance between strategic focus and strategic agility. Building on a foundation in the study of strategic management, management decision-making and business process design, this unit explores contemporary practice of strategic management with a particular emphasis on the role of AI, data and new organisational and business forms.  Participants will work in virtual teams as they employ design thinking and agile methods to demonstrate their understanding of strategic management of contemporary organisations.
