Connection, communication and community
MBO5012
Synopsis
People connect with people - not their positions, not their affiliations, and certainly not with their devices. While some argue that the world is becoming lonely and ‘individual’, others argue that advancement in communication technology is, in part, a response to the overwhelming need for people to belong and to feel a sense of community. Beginning with a solid foundation in the study of human connection and communications, this unit explores contemporary practice of building professional communities. You will learn how aspects of contemporary management practice can be enhanced through effective communications, the use of social media and a community-building approach. You will develop skills associated with social network analysis, communities of practice, learning communities, organisational learning and the use of social and other media applications.
