Advanced skills: Embryo manipulations
MCE5201
Synopsis
This unit will build on the assisted reproduction technology (ART) practical skills gained in MCE5112.
Hands-on practical tuition will enable you to gain an appreciation for more advanced embryology skills. Using a murine model, you will gain competency in embryo vitrification, embryo warming and micromanipulation (intracytoplasmic sperm injection [ICSI] and biopsy).
You will demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of key ART processes though both practical and written assessments. Associated laboratory skills such as laboratory etiquette, working as a group, liquid nitrogen training and writing laboratory reports will be included in the teaching of this unit.
Note; dissecting mice and attending the animal house for gamete and embryo collection is optional for you.
