Synopsis

The purpose of this unit is to examine and debate the critical role of social entrepreneurship in the modern business context. The unit will introduce you to social entrepreneurship and equip you with an understanding of the theoretical foundations and practical issues of social entrepreneurship. Key processes involved in the business of managing social enterprises such as the development and use of alternate yardsticks of performance measurement, approach to management of people, financing, and entrepreneurial leadership for social goals will be critically examined. Business models of social entrepreneurship will be introduced and critically evaluated in relation to conventional modes of practice. Topics studied will include definitions and background of social entrepreneurship; challenges and drivers of social entrepreneurship; processes and business models concerning social entrepreneurship.
