Overview
This unit provides students with a comprehensive and clinically meaningful final preparation for transition to practice as a competent beginning level midwife. The unit builds on the content covered in, MID2000, MID2010, MID3222, MID3202, MID4000, and NUR4111 related to identification of areas of midwifery practice requiring quality improvement in order to achieve safe outcomes for mothers and babies. This unit is designed to challenge the final year student and consolidate their midwifery knowledge and leadership skills by identifying an educational or practice issue of concern. Students have the opportunity to write a proposal for a quality improvement project designed to address an issue of concern in the clinical area. Students will have the opportunity to explore in detail a range of midwifery and medically led models of care and the midwifery leadership necessary to promote the profession, providing childbearing women with choice in the care they receive. Students are provided with the opportunity to explore contemporary midwifery practice, regulatory and professional issues and identify evidence informed midwifery practices.
