Solid mechanics 1
MMA2002
Synopsis
This unit introduces the fundamental principles of stress, strain, and deformation in solid materials subjected to axial, transverse, torsional, and bending loads. You will develop skills to analyse and design structural elements such as shafts and beams using free-body diagrams, shear-force and bending moment diagrams, and stress transformations. You will also build capability in solving statically determinate and indeterminate problems, and in applying failure criteria to assess the safety of structures under load.
