Learning outcomes

When you finish this unit, you should be able to:

    Identify important chemical, physical and biological hazards in the environment and analyse related risks to health from environmental factors in Australia;

  2. 2

    Critically appraise the epidemiological literature which informs the evidence base for environmental health risk control strategies;

  3. 3

    Apply appropriate techniques for exposure assessment and risk assessment;

  4. 4

    Communicate fluently using appropriate terminology about hazards, risks and risk management interventions in a variety of contexts, including community engagement, and;

  5. 5

    Evaluate evidence-based interventions to manage common environmental risks and reduce harm.

Workload and teaching

  • Workshops-

6 hours off campus, self-directed learning per week, 4 hours teacher directed learning per week, plus 20 contact hours over 3 block days.
