Synopsis
You will be introduced to the basic concepts, methods and applications of economic evaluation in the healthcare sector. Topics include the different methods of economic evaluation (e.g. cost-minimisation analysis, cost-effectiveness analysis, cost-utility analysis, cost-benefit analysis); the strengths and limitations of studies and study design; analysing the quality of evidence; how economic evaluation differs from other forms of evaluation; and how information from an economic evaluation can aid decision making. Practical applications include when to undertake an economic evaluation, designing an economic evaluation, the steps in conducting an economic evaluation; and the tools and methods for measuring costs and outcomes and analysis.
