Global health care delivery: principles and challenges
MPH5252
Synopsis
In this unit you will explore global health through a real-world lens. In today’s fast-changing, interconnected world, understanding global health is more important—and more complex—than ever. In this unit you will be invited to explore how health and illness are shaped not just by biology, but by global politics, inequality, and history.
You will take a hands-on, human rights–based approach to studying global health care delivery. Together, we’ll look at how globalisation, colonisation, and international governance shape people’s health around the world—and how we might do things better.
Key topics include:
- Why some communities face greater health challenges than others
- Barriers to health care for migrants and refugees
- How colonial legacies and international aid affect health systems
- The politics of neglected diseases and global health funding
- Real-life case studies of global health successes and failures
You will develop skills in critical thinking and intercultural understanding, and gain tools to help tackle the health challenges of our time—wherever you are in the world.
