Overview

In this unit you will explore the complex care needs of the individual who has experienced a burn injury, including the long term physical and psychological complications that can arise. In particular, you will have the opportunity to consider scar management in detail.

Learning outcomes

When you finish this unit, you should be able to:

    Describe the first aid and appropriate management required to care for a person with an acute burn injury

  2. 2

    Implement a holistic approach to systematic assessment of a person with a burn injury, incorporating physical, psychosocial and environmental factors.

    Recognise and apply evidence based treatment strategies to manage a person with a burn injury, and develop plans to minimise burn injury complications

  4. 4

    Appraise the long term consequences of burn injury and scar development in  individuals, their carers and family and health care professionals.
