Recovery oriented mental health nursing practice
NUR5012
Synopsis
Recovery in mental health is a unique experience that is defined by the person. Recovery oriented mental health nursing practice aims to support people in their personal recovery from mental health conditions and uphold their rights as service users.
In this unit you will examine approaches and frameworks used in mental health nursing practice to support people in their recovery, and reflect on the role that mental health nurses can have in supporting people, families and communities’ growth and wellbeing.
You will explore the significance of the consumer movement and the markedly different notions of recovery. Human rights and the interplay with stigma and discrimination will be explored in the context of the impact on service users.
