Enrolment rules
Students must be employed in a neuroscience clinical area as a Registered Nurse at a minimum 0.6EFT. Students must have approval from their employer who are an agreed industry partner health service. The agreed partner health service will provide a senior registered nurse, with appropriate post graduate qualifications in neuroscience nursing, or clinical nurse educator to undertake clinical assessments.
Must be enrolled in course code M6031 in the Neuroscience nursing specialisation.
Overview
Care of the patient with a neuroscience condition requires specialised nursing skills and knowledge to address the complex needs of the patient. In this unit you will develop specialised knowledge and skills that will enable you to assess, plan, prioritise, implement and evaluate appropriate nursing care of the acute neuroscience patient. You will also implement health promotion and educational principles, while considering evidence-based practices for those with neuroscience conditions. This unit will enable you to develop an understanding of evidence-based treatment including new and emerging treatment and effective nursing management of complications.

Plan, prioritize, implement, and evaluate specialist nursing assessment and management for individuals with neurological conditions.

Implement health promotion and educational principles in the care of a person with a neuroscience condition to ensure optimal health outcomes.

Evaluate the evidence-based practice when caring for a person with a neuroscience condition and their significant others.

Differentiate the purpose of multidisciplinary team collaborations in the management of an individual with neurological conditions considering the person, family, and/or community-centred approach.
