Overview

Safe, effective and person-centred care for all people experiencing mental health issues require integrated approaches to health services focussed on consumer involvement. Within Australia there are a range of programs and services to monitor, promote and support people’s mental health and wellbeing needs across the lifespan. For people experiencing mental health problems, there is a complex system of services that provide specialist care; including but not limited to acute inpatient settings, community mental health, residential care, social and community support programs.

In this unit, you will develop an understanding of how global and Australian mental health strategies influence the development and delivery of mental health programs and services at a national and state level. This unit will prepare you with advanced knowledge and skills to work with the unique needs of people from diverse backgrounds and experiences, critique specific strategies to support their needs, and justify why an integrated approach to mental health is necessary.
