Overview
Mental health consumers, their families, carers and supporters face unique, complex and multifaceted issues. Mental health nurses possess a comprehensive understanding of these issues and approach them with co-constructed personalised care strategies to ensure complex needs are being met. Mental health nurses integrate relevant frameworks into their practice to support engagement and service delivery and ensure optimal outcomes. They also use their professional voice to advocate for mental health consumers, professional autonomy and to achieve professional influence.
You will consolidate knowledge, skills and attitudes pertinent to the role of the mental health nurse. This involves working collaboratively with consumers, their families, carers and supporters, the multidisciplinary team, agencies and stakeholders to support the person in their recovery. Additionally, you will explore the identity and voice of mental health nurses, required to address workplace culture, achieve professional influence and advance clinical excellence in mental health practice.
