Prerequisite: NUR5300

Must be enrolled in M6031 (Cardiac nursing specialisation). Must be working at least 0.6 FTE in a cardiac setting.

Overview

This unit focuses on the development of advanced practice skills and knowledge necessary to work within cardiac nursing. This unit builds on the skills and knowledge gained in NUR5xxx Foundations of Cardiac Nursing Care. Key areas to be covered in this unit include advanced ECG interpretation, advanced haemodynamic monitoring, shock management and treatment, and multi organ dysfunction. You will learn advanced nursing care and educational strategies for patients who are receiving cardiac pacing or requiring assist device therapies. Roles of cardiac nurses in supporting interventions such as advanced haemodynamic monitoring, cardiac pacing, and intra-aortic balloon pump therapy is covered. You will also acquire leadership skills related to advanced practice in cardiac nursing.
