Overview
Cardiothoracic nursing is an important area of cardiac nursing. Cardiothoracic nurses require specific cardiac knowledge to support quality patient outcomes. Patients requiring cardiothoracic care present with a wide array of conditions.
In this unit you will explore the role of cardiothoracic nurses, working and managing the cardiothoracic ward environment, patient assessment, interventional and surgical options, managing patient transitions with cardiothoracic presentations, and concepts of advanced nursing practice.
You will develop skills that will enable you to provide support for patients and significant others requiring cardiothoracic care. Additionally, you will explore the role of the cardiothoracic nurse in the multidisciplinary team.
