Overview
This unit builds on concepts and content from NUR5705 Perioperative Nursing Practice 1 to enable you to develop knowledge and skills related to specific speciality areas within perioperative nursing.
Surgical specialty areas studied include orthopaedics, neurosurgery, trauma, vascular and cardiothoracic surgery. You will explore the complex care required in special populations that present to the perioperative setting (for example obstetrics, elderly, paediatric and bariatric patients). Aspects of care associated with rural and remote settings will also be explored.
This unit will prepare you to engage with others during advanced perioperative care (unpredictable and complex scenarios).

Explore the impacts of workplace factors on the patient’s perioperative journey, from both patient and organisational perspectives.
