Synopsis
This unit explores the role of nurses and midwives in a multicultural society. Study in the unit will provide nurses and midwives with the framework to improve health care for those from a culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) background. People from a CALD background often experience many challenges accessing health care to include health disparities and inequities.
This unit, extends the knowledge and skills of nurses and midwives working cross-culturally, and comprises of four modules:
1) general principles of working cross-culturally in contemporary health care,
2) working cross-culturally with patients, families and carers,
3) working cross-culturally with other healthcare professionals in cultural and interdisciplinary contexts, and
4) building cross-cultural practice and care related policy and systems.
