Learning outcomes

When you finish this unit, you should be able to:

    Critique the application of developing theories of leadership competence and their application to the leadership of projects, programs and portfolios.

    Design and communicate suitable advanced governance structures that support the development of a program framework and culture to critically manage risk and uncertainty.

    Analyse and evaluate how project-based organisations develop policy and strategy, and formulate structures, including program and portfolio management, to link projects to corporate strategy.

    Assess alignment with organisational objectives and strategic goals, and develop, document and prepare a program management business case for an organisation.

The minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 144 hours per semester typically comprising a mixture of 3 - 6 hours of scheduled learning activities and 6 - 9 hours of independent study per week. Scheduled activities may include a combination of teacher-directed learning, peer-directed learning and online engagement. Independent study may include associated readings, assessment and preparation for scheduled activities.

This unit includes case-based teaching, where you apply your knowledge and engage in analytical and reflective thinking to solve complex contextual scenarios. Activities are often designed so that there is not one clear answer, but you need to work together to examine, analyse and make decisions to resolve the situation.

This unit includes problem-based learning approaches, where you engage in research, integrate theory and practice and apply knowledge and skills to develop viable solutions in response to a problem or set of problems. 

This unit engages you in actively applying your knowledge, skills and attributes in interactive, collaborative and reflective activities.

This unit provides you with opportunities to participate in experiential learning by visiting cultural, geographical and/or industrial sites relevant to your studies.
