Corequisite: Must be enrolled in one of the following course codes: 3876, 3877, 3878, M6015
Overview
This unit introduces you to an advanced level of knowledge, understanding and skills related to the critical care management of patients with cardiac complications.
You will explore the pathophysiology of cardiac disease, and link this to the prehospital, and hospital treatment pathways. Additionally, you will explore the epidemiology and patient profile of cardiac conditions, and you will combine this with an advanced capacity to assess and care for this patient cohort. You must be actively engaged in appropriate clinical practice, clinical placements or clinical simulation to achieve the outcomes of this unit.

Construct an approach to the analysis of electrocardiogram (ECG0, and relate waveform morphology to the underlying structure and function of the heart;

Formulate appropriate pharmacotherapeutic regimes using the relevant drugs available for the critical care management of cardiac conditions;

Implement knowledge, skills and evidence-based practice to professionally manage a cardiac emergency as a critical care paramedic;
- 5
Assess the benefits of pre-hospital advanced cardiac life support and the related role of the critical care paramedic.
