Indigenous health and cultural safety

PBH2007

Synopsis

This unit is informed by the Australian Government's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Curriculum Framework and was created by Indigenous academics from the Gukwonderuk Indigenous Health Unit in collaboration with Nursing and Midwifery and School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine. You will have the opportunity to strengthen practical skills required to improve cultural safety in healthcare leading to Indigenous health equity. You will reflect on your own worldview and consider how this may impact on working with diverse Indigenous Australian peoples. You will undertake online learning journeys which feature stories from Indigenous Elders and healthcare workers, videos, podcasts and interactive activities. In addition, critical reflections on real life case studies and activities to develop lifelong learning will be provided.

Sourced from the Monash Handbook 2026.
