Biostatistics for health
PBH3011
Synopsis
This unit will help you build upon earlier coursework units in data, critical thinking, epidemiology, introductory biostatistics and research methods.
You will focus on a unified framework of statistical modelling used in a variety of health science research and practical applications, including analysis of data from questionnaires, randomised and non-randomised comparative studies, as well as purely observational data.
You will link between clearly defined research questions to be investigated and the formulation and execution of appropriate statistical procedures, together with their interpretations in scientific lay language.
Statistical methods you will cover are: correlation and linear regression analysis, logistic regression analysis and cox regression for survival analysis. The lectures you will attend are supplemented with weekly case studies, discussed during tutorials/computer labs, and drawn from a variety of areas of epidemiology, public and global health.
Sourced from the Monash Handbook 2026.
