Economic management in healthcare
PHI5264
Synopsis
The complexities of care delivery in the ever-evolving world of health services has never been more challenging or significant; healthcare managers need fluency in health economics, because healthcare delivery and funding are inexorably linked. The ability to evaluate cost effectiveness of transforming care practices has become essential as government funding for health is increasingly interpreted as funding quality outcomes.
In this unit you will explore concepts of resource allocation and will analyse and compare funding for competing health needs. It will investigate the production of health care and services within an economic framework, incorporating/cementing this knowledge with case studies. It will also include critical analysis of the impact of innovation and how this is incorporated into current health care funding, utilising systematic methods and evidence-based medicine in the form of economic evaluations and their application.
