Child and youth mental health: Empowering parents and carers

Synopsis
This unit will focus on developing your knowledge of child and youth mental health, and developing your skills to support their parents and families. You will learn about common mental disorders impacting children, youth, and parents/carers, and the bidirectional relationships that intrapersonal, interpersonal, and social factors have with child and youth mental health. You will develop an understanding of the role of parenting in child and youth mental health, and interpersonal skills for communicating with parents about their parenting behaviours, and how they can support their child’s mental health.
You will develop the ability to identify and discuss unique cultural, ethical, legal, and health-policy considerations relevant to working with children and youth, and those from diverse backgrounds.
