PSY6163
Synopsis
Trainees will be introduced to the scientist-practitioner model of neuropsychological assessment, incorporating hypothesis-testing approaches. Building upon existing broader cognitive neuropsychology knowledge and psychological assessment skills, trainees will first learn how to apply a range of quantitative and qualitative assessment techniques to assess of neuropsychological functions. Trainees will learn how to integrate this information to develop holistic biopsychosocial formulations that help explain a client's neuropsychological difficulties, and will learn how to effectively and sensitively community assessment feedings to a range of relevant stakeholders. Case-based learning will be used extensively both within teaching sessions, and across pre/post learning activities to optimise competency development. Specific issues regarding assessment of decision-making capacity, acute assessment, longitudinal assessment, symptom/performance validity and assessment of people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds will be covered.
