Overview
This unit will develop your skills in leadership and advocacy to promote equity, access and health promotion within physiotherapy and the health and disability sectors more broadly. Leadership models will be analysed across a range of different health and advocacy contexts and the role of policy on national and international physiotherapy practice discussed.
Skills associated with effective learning and teaching will be developed including methods of promoting learning in others. Cultural capability with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples including respect, communication, reflection, advocacy and safety and quality will be further developed.

Compare and contrast the theories of leadership within health and apply education theory and principles to support the learning of others.

Discuss and debate the principles of equity, equality, social justice and propose strategies for a defined problem in physiotherapy and healthcare.

Advocate for equitable health and demonstrate strategies to work with possible system challenges in delivering culturally safe health care.

Analyse a range of public policy issues so as to understand government process and political lobbying by organizations, individuals and communities at a national and international level.

Explore the policy cycle in the context of a National Health Priority Area; and propose physiotherapy specific interventions that address these priority areas.

Detail and apply critical pre-employment information and processes relative to the entry-level graduate.
Workload and teaching
You are expected to complete:
On-campus: You are required to attend and participate in a one-week block of campus-based study that will include a presentation of your work at a debate at the end of the Semester. The on-campus component of this unit will also include an additional one-day seminar during the semester that will extend your integrated knowledge and skills and prepare you for graduation and entry into the workforce.
Off-campus: This unit will predominantly be completed off-campus. An average of twelve hours of assisted and/or independent work per week is expected over the semester.
