Learning outcomes
When you finish this unit, you should be able to:
- 1
Apply the principles of fluid flow (including air-moisture behaviour) relevant to a ventilation system.
- 2
Appreciate the occurrence of gases and particulate matter in confined spaces and select appropriate control strategies.
- 3
Design a basic ventilation system (including primary and secondary circuits).
- 4
Interpret and apply legislative requirements applicable to ventilation.
Workload and teaching
- Teaching approachActive learning
- Teaching approachProblem-based learning
- Teaching approachResearch activities
The minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 144 hours per semester typically comprising a mixture of 3-6 hours of scheduled learning activities and 6-9 hours of independent study per week. Scheduled activities may include a combination of teacher-directed learning, peer-directed learning and online engagement. Independent study may include associated readings, assessment and preparation for scheduled activities.
During workshops and online lectures, you will be asked to participate in activities to answer questions and express your opinions about certain topics discussed in class.
You will undertake problem-solving of some real-life problems in mineral exploration and estimation resources.
You will work on the assignment as a research project where you will apply the research methods to understand the concepts of ventilation networks in mine areas.
