Synopsis
This unit deals with technical and engineering aspects of mine and tunnel planning. Mine planning includes subsurface investigation and resource evaluation, technical and economic feasibility, mining method and equipment selection, and environmental and social responsibilities. Tunnel planning involves geological investigation and interpretation, subsurface ground profiles and ground conditions, technical feasibility, tunnel route and shape, tunnel construction methods and equipment, and environmental and social impacts.
