Overview
This capstone unit provides you with the opportunity to consolidate and apply your theoretical and experiential social work knowledge and skills to address a range of contemporary social work practice challenges and issues. The unit is structured to enable you to work creatively and collaboratively with peers in one of five fields of social work practice: Child protection; Hospital social work practice; Family violence; Criminal justice and Longevity. With the support of an academic specialist you and your peers will undertake an in-depth analysis of the particular issue, challenge or problem of interest and propose an evidence - based intervention.

Critically evaluate the role of social work in ameliorating the impact of the major challenges facing vulnerable populations including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Workload and teaching
This unit uses a blended learning approach comprising 12 hours of teacher directed learning activities each week for 6 weeks. There will be weekly learning activities to be completed prior to a weekly on-campus teacher directed seminar. Students will also be provided with directed post class online learning activities. In addition, it is expected that students will engage in up to 12 hours per week for 6 weeks working towards the completion of the assessment tasks.
Off-campus students participate in a 3 - day residential workshop. In addition, they will be provided with up to 12 hours of teacher directed and prepared learning activities for 6 weeks. Students will be expected to engage in up to 12 hours per week for 6 weeks working towards the completion of the assessment tasks.
