Overview
Accounting forms the backbone of sustainable corporate management, translating complex transaction data into strategic governance, transparency, and organisational value. Within this major, you will master financial and management accounting, corporate law, taxation, and advanced auditing techniques. You will cultivate sharp critical thinking, professional communication, and global sustainability awareness, while mastering the responsible use of modern digital systems, data analytics, and AI frameworks. This major equips you to collaboratively tackle pressing economic challenges and prepares you for dynamic career pathways as chartered accountants, financial controllers, and strategic business consultants.

Availability
Accounting is offered in B2001 Bachelor of Commerce at Clayton and in B2000 Bachelor of Business at Caulfield as a major and minor.
Structure
Rules
You must complete 48 credit points, comprising:
- 36 credit points of core units and;
- 12 credit points of specified discipline units.
Notes:
- If you are enrolled in the Bachelor of Business, you must undertake units at the Caulfield campus, except where units are available in the Winter or Summer teaching periods.
- If you are enrolled in the Bachelor of Commerce, you must undertake units at the Clayton campus, except where units are available in the Winter or Summer teaching periods.

- Professional Accounting Accreditation: If you are seeking membership to ACCA, CA ANZ or CPA you should complete the following units as part of, and in addition to, the requirements of your Accounting major: ACF3600, ACX3900, BFF2140, BTF2000, BTX3931, ECF1200 (or their X coded equivalents). Some of these units will need to be completed in the elective space in your course. ACX3900 can also be used to satisfy course capstone requirements.
