Overview

Accountancy drives transparent business ecosystems by measuring, reporting, analysing, and auditing vital financial data across global and domestic scales across diverse business contexts. The major builds specialised expertise in financial reporting, management accounting, assurance services, and corporate taxation frameworks. Through progressive assessments, you develop practical capabilities to evaluate financial performance, identify auditing and assurance risks, and interpret data patterns using modern digital architectures. The major equips you with sharp critical thinking, team leadership, and communication skills, preparing you for professional workplace roles across financial consultancies, diverse businesses and corporates. Further, the major equips you with the formal international accreditation pathways.

Rules
The major comprises 48 credit points, with no more than 12 credit points at unit Level 1 and at least 18 credit points at unit Level 3.

You must complete 48 credit points of core units.
Bachelor of Business Administration (Peninsula)
If you are studying the Bachelor of Business Administration, you must enrol in the units listed for the Bachelor of Business Administration major at the Peninsula Campus, except if these are offered in the Winter, Summer or November teaching periods. In this case, the cross-campus (X) coded version of the unit may be undertaken instead.

Professional Accounting Accreditation

The following units are required for Professional Accounting Accreditation:

- If you are seeking membership to ACCA, CA ANZ or CPA you should complete the following units. These units will need to be completed in Part C. Elective studies.

- ACX3900 must be completed as the course capstone unit.

- If you intend to complete a major in Accountancy and seeking professional accounting accreditation you must complete BFB2140 if you have not already completed it in in Part A.

- If you are completing the Accountancy major as part of your double degree, ECX2953 is required for professional accreditation and can be completed instead of ECB1101 in Part A.

- For the Accountancy major, the completion of some units within the major entitles exemptions from enrolling in similar papers in the professional qualifying exams set by the accounting professional bodies. Where you have not completed a unit that carries an exemption, you are unlikely to be granted an exemption by the professional bodies.
